A research team from the University of Kufa and the University of Technology has obtained a patent on manufacturing polymer overlapping materials with nanoscale additives for an artificial hip joint and studying friction corrosion.
The research team consisted of Dr. Safaa Hashim Al-Moussawi from the Faculty of Engineering – University of Kufa, Dr. Jawad Kadhem Alewi, and Dr. Rana Afif from the University of Technology.
The patent focused on strengthening the polymer used in the cultivation and replacement of the hip joint polyethylene by a very high molecular weight and adding nanomaterials represented by carbon nanotubes. The result revealed a fusion and synergy between Polymer chains and additives.
